How to help Sponsor a Musician

We have a new page added to our blog; how to sponsor a musician. This will help anyone who would like to make a donation, however large or small, towards the wonderful opportunity of our trip to Vienna in July 2015 to compete in the Summa Cum Laude music festival.

The orchestra consists of 18 members (11 violins, 4 violas, 2 cellos, 1 double bass) ranging in age from 13 to 19, and the cost is ~$5300 per person. Not only will they compete at the SCL Festival, they will participate in master classes, tour several cities in Europe and perform in Vienna, Salzburg, Prague and Grabenstatt. This is an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for these young musicians.

All donations are greatly appreciated and donors will be honored in our spring celebration tea, on our website and will receive a postcard from Vienna. Donations can be made to the Community Foundation of PEI and a tax receipt will be issued. Please note that the donation is for the Singing Strings and specify a student if applicable.

Please check out the Sponsor a Vienna 2015 musician page and see if you are able to help. Posted there are the letter of support from the SCL festival, as well as a copy of our donor letter which gives you more detail about the festival and ways you can support the Singing Strings in this incredible endeavour!

Many thanks,
Natalie

Singing Strings plans a Romantic Valentine’s Evening!

Singing Strings is putting the love back into Islander’s hearts this Valentine’s by providing sweet romantic music for all ages.

Not only will there be beautiful music provided by the Intermediate and Senior Singing Strings but they have added a special love aspect featuring Island singer Suzanne Campbell who will perform a set of her favourite love songs.

The Valentine evening takes place at Park Royal United Church gymnasium on Friday, February 13th beginning at 6:30 pm with Nils Ling as the host for the evening. Tickets are $12.00 for adults and $10.00 for students with children 8 and under free.

“We also have local caterers chef Robert Pendergast and chef Tyler Gallant taking care of the Valentine’s meal with an array of home-made chowders and breads,” says Strings leader Jen Clement. “Another highlight will be the delightful decadent desserts that are donated by various Island bakers and chefs as part of a fun auction to take home or enjoy with your meal.”

“We hope seniors will especially enjoy this Valentine’s event,” concludes Clement. “I hope all ages will join us for this evening of romantic music at a reasonable cost. We even have a dance floor set-up for anyone who wants to dance.”

Funds raised go to support the Intermediate Singing Strings trip to the Halifax Music Festival in April and the Senior Singing Strings trip in July to Vienna. Tickets are available from Singing Strings members. You may also reserve tickets by phone; please call (902) 672-2839 and leave a message. Tickets are also available at the office at Park Royal Church.
